I love bikes - well, racing handbikes to be more precise. I'm paralysed from the chest down after a rock-climbing accident (ages ago now), and am part of the British Paracycling Team. I competed in the London 2012 Paralympics and won a silver medal in the Time Trial. I also do a bit of cross-training with Paratriathlon. My bike was so strong after the Paralympics that I managed to win World Paratriathlon Champion title in New Zealand 2012 despite being a very dodgy swimmer! When I'm not training on the bike, I like to sea kayak, ski (all in specially adapted kit) and generally have adventures in wild places. Check out www.karendarke.com for more.

Sam Gardner

Sam Gardner is Britain’s most successful male Xterra off-road racer with a list of great results. Gardner entered the world of triathlon in 2005 after a successful career racing mountain bike cross-country both domestically and internationally. As a cyclist Sam won 3 national titles and represented Great Britain on several occasions.

In his first triathlon season Gardner managed to win 13 races including the Vitruvian middle distance event. He then decided to combine triathlon with his mountain bike experience entering the European Xterra series which is offroad triathlon.

Since then Sam has won 6 Xterra Global tour races, Xterra Japan in 2008, 2009, Xterra Saipan 2009, 2010 and 2011, and Xterra Philippines in 2011. In 2009 he placed 3rd overall in the Xtrerra European series, and also took the Bronze medal in the one day European champs.

Sam's best result in the world champs was in 2011 where he finished 11th, one place ahead of the Olympic champion Jan Frodeno, and also ahead of Lance Armstrong.

In 2013, Sam is planning to try to recapture his Xterra Saipan, Philippines and Guam titles which he didn't managed to contest last season due to the birth of his daughter Abi.
